SHARJAH // Fire fighters from three emirates were called to tackle a blaze that destroyed nine warehouses in an industrial area at the weekend.

The fire in industrial area 6, behind the Macro supermarket, started at 9.25pm last night and took fire fighters from Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai about an hour to bring under control, said Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, the director of Sharjah Civil Defence.

The buildings were filled with furniture and other goods when the fire broke out. No one was injured.

This was the second such blaze in just over two weeks. On October 31, 10 warehouses in Sharjah's industrial area 12 were gutted by fire.

The area around industrial area 6 remained cordoned off this morning as crews carried out the cooling process that is expected to last until this evening, after which CID and fire experts will attempt to establish the cause of the fire.
