A fire broke out on a boat in Dubai's Umm Suqeim marina on Saturday morning.

With help from Dubai Civil Defence, the maritime rescue teams at the port's police station extinguished the fire.

“Our rescue teams were dispatched to site immediately,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al Naqbi, head of the Maritime Rescue Department at Dubai police.

“They moved the boat to a secure location away from other vessels to prevent the fire from spreading.”

He said the blaze was put out quickly with help from firefighters.

"In light of the quick response on ground, there are no injuries to report,” he said.

He urged owners of private boats to ensure safety equipment is on board and, most importantly, has not expired.

“It's essential owners ensure they have all kinds of safety equipment on their boats especially that it's summer now and temperatures are rising,” said Lt Colonel Al Naqbi.

The incident comes two weeks after a yacht caught fire in Abu Dhabi's Mina Zayed area, and six months after two people were injured in a boat fire off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah.
