Abu Dhabi Police are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a vacant three-storey building near Al Ittihad newspaper's office, near the corner of Sultan Bin Zayed First Street (4th Street) and Mohammed Bin Khalifa Street (15th Street).

The fire was reported at 12.21pm on Monday and fought by a response team that included one ambulance, five fire vehicles and two police cars to direct traffic.

There were no injuries.

“It’s a vacant building,” said a police officer at the scene.

It is believed that the fire began on the ground floor.

Abdulrazak Muhamad Kutty, a cook at Tikka restaurant next door, said he saw smoke shortly after noon.

“I was in the restaurant and I saw a lot of smoke and came outside,” said Mr Kutty.

“Then the police arrived.”
