Police call on residents not to crowd around accident sites lest they hinder rescue operations
Fire breaks out in Abu Dhabi apartment building
A fire broke out in a high-rise residential tower in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
The fire began at 9.30pm in one of the flats of the 13-storey building in Khalidiya.
Civil Defence and Police dispatched teams from two nearby stations and evacuated the building of its residents.
No injuries were reported and investigations are now under way into the cause of the blaze.
Meanwhile, Brig Gen Mohammed Al Ketbi, director general of civil defence, called on residents not to obstruct police and ambulances from reaching the site of an emergency.
He said people should not gather around incidents, such as fires, to watch lest they get in the way and delay rescue operations. It was unclear if civil defence was hindered by such activity during Wednesday’s fire.
