Fire breaks out at western oil refinery

"The flames, which began at the boiler, reached the boiler's fuel tanks but firefighters' efforts kept the situation from becoming more serious," said Lt Col Sultan Al Hosany, the head of the police's technical rescue and quick intervention section.

It took 45 minutes to extinguish the flames and a further hour to cool the boiler.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
