Fifty workers moved to safety as fire tears through clothing factory

Civil Defence video shows blaze being extinguished

At least 50 workers were moved to safety after a fire broke out in Umm Al Quwain's main industrial area.

UAQ Civil Defence released a video of crews extinguishing the blaze on Thursday.

The spread through the clothing factory at about 12.15pm. No casualties were reported

“Firefighters and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the site and managed to evacuate 50 workers from a clothes factory and the surrounding area,” said Col Khamis Bulsali, acting director of the UAQ Civil Defence.

“The rescue team managed to put out the fire in a record time, cooled down the site to be handed to the specialised authorities for further investigation."

Col Bulsali said the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but said building managers must ensure goods are not stored in a "haphazard" manner and that people are not allowed to smoke in factories.
