The family of an Irish woman who died along with her son when they plunged from a Dubai hotel balcony are seeking to return their bodies home.
A Dubai Police official confirmed the incident on Tuesday and said it was captured on CCTV.
“Footage from a camera on a building opposite to the hotel showed the woman, European, throwing her son and committing suicide afterwards,” the official said.
He said the investigation was taken no further.
Reports in Ireland named the woman as Mildred Darcy, 38, and the son as Kiran, whose age was reported as two. They say she was originally from Venezuela but had married an Irishman, Satya Darcy, and lived there for 10 years.
Mr Darcy is said to be heartbroken and is trying to raise funds in Ireland to repatriate their bodies.
In a statement on a community page, the Darcy family said: “Satya’s wonderful wife and beautiful baby son were his whole world.
“Since the devastating news of their passing last week in Dubai, it has been Satya’s primary focus to bring his family back home to Ireland.”
The Irish foreign ministry confirmed that it was aware of the case and was providing consular assistance.
