Etihad Airways to show every World Cup match live in the air
ABU DHABI // Etihad Airways plans to show every World Cup football match live on long-haul flights.
All 64 games are to be transmitted live at 30,000 feet through the airline’s in-flight entertainment system.
The month-long tournament kicks off on Thursday with the opening match between host country Brazil and Croatia.
“The Fifa World Cup is the biggest and most exciting sporting event in the world and I’m delighted that all of our guests will be able to watch every match while they fly with us on their long-haul business or holiday flights,” said Peter Baumgartner, chief commercial officer of Etihad Airways.
“I hope that they sit back, relax and enjoy the great football action.”
The airline said there has been great demand for the matches from British, Dutch and Belgian expatriates in Abu Dhabi, whose national teams are playing matches in the next two weeks.
Etihad, the UAE flag carrier, has non-stop, daily flights from Abu Dhabi to Sao Paulo and employs 49 Brazilians in its cabin crew.
