The import of French beef was banned in 2001, but may now resume.
Et voilà, French beef will soon be back on UAE menus
DUBAI // French beef will soon be back on the supermarket shelves following the signing of an agreement by the country’s agriculture ministry and the UAE’s Ministry of Environment and Water.
Beef from Europe was banned in 2001 following an outbreak of BSE, or mad cow disease. The ban on French beef was lifted in 2009, and now the signing of the agreement means imports can resume.
All imported meat will be halal certified.
“The French beef sector will enter the UAE market by meeting importers, chefs at major hotels and restaurants and retailers,” said Christelle Labernède of France’s trade commission in Dubai.
