A pet owner has been reunited with the cat she lost almost a year ago.

The reunion happened after she adopted an identical looking cat a couple of months back and gave it the same name in the memory of her first furry baby.

Burcu Calikli was reunited with her tortoiseshell cat called Brownie – now known as Big Brownie to help differentiate the pair – after sleuthing by an administrator of The Bin Kitty Collective Facebook page.

A member on the group who found Brownie took the cat for a microchip check, which revealed the owner to be a former administrator of the page.

“I thought this sounded like one of our adoption day cats,” said Phil Grange, the new administrator of the Bin Kitty Facebook page.

“I scanned all our records and found an old post on Facebook from 2014. The lost cat and the photos matched. Things just fell together,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ms Calikli, who’d given up hope of ever finding Brownie, adopted another kitten.

Unlike Persians, tortoiseshells are not affectionate. It's difficult to hug them.

“I adopted this tiny little kitten in the memory of Brownie and gave her the same name,” she said.

“They look identical, even the patches are the same.

“We’d lost our first Brownie but hoped she was fine and alive somewhere.”

Ms Calikli said she was pleasantly surprised to find Brownie again after losing hope of ever being reunited.

After losing her first cat, Ms Calikli posted on Bin Kitty and contacted the hospital where her chip was registered to notify them with the hope of finding her.

“They sent messages to all vets about my missing cat.

“But time passed by and there was no news.”

Ms Calikli was delighted to find Brownie again, who immediately recognised her.

“She recognised my voice and came to me,” she said.

“Unlike Persians, tortoiseshells are not affectionate. It’s difficult to hug them. She is more like an independent street cat.”

Both the cats are not getting along well.

“It’s okay, they are under my control,” said Ms Calikli, who now cares for three cats.

Both are used to the same name and changing it is not an option, she said.

“Ones’ called big Brownie and the other small Brownie.

“They are all Brownie,” she said.
