The UAE is expected to bask in warm sunshine on Sunday as the first hints of summer begin to show.

In Abu Dhabi it could get as high as 38°C and in Dubai 36°C, according to the National Centre for Meteorology. While some cloud cover is expected to move in during the afternoon and the threat of blowing dust in open areas remains, it is unlikely to dampen what should be a glorious day across the UAE.

It will be warmer still on Monday as temperatures will continue to increase through the week.

As windspeed reach 45 kilometres per hour in places, further threats of sandstorms will present themselves on Monday and into Tuesday, but it will remain dry unlike the week before.

Sea conditions will be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman for the early part of the week, as gusting winds continue.

The warm weather is in stark contrast to an eventful weather week across the UAE. Showers were reported in Dubai on Saturday as spectators gathered for the Dubai Word Cup.

Thunder and lightening, heavy rain and sandstorms hit the UAE this week. On Friday, a handful of flights were delayed for a couple of hours at Dubai International Airport when fog enveloped the area.

By Tuesday and into Wednesday, light rain showers could return to the UAE as low pressure begins to build once more to bring a brief spell of unsettled weather.
