Latest: Strong winds to bring further dust storms

Strong winds lashed Abu Dhabi this morning as a dust storm engulfed the emirate.

A blanket of dust and thick cloud reduced visibility across the capital and also affected parts of Dubai.

Rainfall and thunderstorms are expected around the UAE over the weekend, especially in Northern and Eastern areas.

Temperatures will range between 15°C and 31°C along the coast, 14°C to 33°C inland and 8°C to 20°C in the mountains. Winds may reach 60kph in coastal areas and 50kph inland.

The unsettled weather is expected to continue for several days, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

Visibility will be particularly affected in more exposed areas while seas in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are expected to be rough or very rough.

Friday is expected to be cloudy in general, with northwesterly winds freshening by the afternoon and blowing in more suspended dust.

Saturday will be partly cloudy and hazy with a probability of some light rain by morning and a significant fall in temperatures.

Sunday will again be partly cloudy, especially over some Northern areas.
