Heavy rain lashed the Al Ain region this the weekend with the national weather centre sharing videos of motorists skidding on wet, sandy roads.

The National Centre of Meterology and Seismology (NCMS) said there were flash downpours in the south-eastern towns of Khatam Al Shikhla, Malaqet, Al Hili, Al Foah and Al Wagan and the surrounding area.

It urged drivers to take care as drivers were seen skidding on wet sand.

The coastal cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi experienced somewhat cooler temperatures on Friday and Saturday, in the low forties.

Hazy conditions are expected to linger, with the possibility of rain clouds forming over the eastern and southern areas this afternoon.

With the wind blowing between about 15 and 30 km/h, the Arabian Gulf will be slight to moderate, while the Oman Sea may be rough at times.

Hikers trekking up Jebel Jais on Saturday morning would have experienced the coolest temperatures in the country, with the mercury hovering at about 27C.

Higher humidity is forecast for the evenings in the coming days, with a maximum of 85 per cent, NCMS said.
