Fog has enveloped parts of the UAE overnight, cutting visibility to 1,000 metres in some places, forecasters have warned.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) cautioned commuters to be extra careful when travelling during these conditions.

Fog is common at this time of year and the conditions are set to persist into the weekend, particularly hitting the western Al Dhafra region.

The reduced visibility caused crippling delays at the country's airports during the festive season last year and travellers will be hoping to avoid any repeat of this.

Meanwhile, the NCM said it will partly cloudy across the UAE on Tuesday, with humidity increasing by the evening.

Maximum temperatures will hit 29C during the day, while it could sink to a chilly 9C in the mountains.

Winds could reach speeds of 35kph, with conditions expected to be reasonably calm in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman.
