A thick blanket of fog enveloped a swathe of the UAE coast early on Saturday.
Large areas of the coast, from Al Ruwais and Abu Dhabi city to Dubai and beyond were affected by the fog, which stretched inland in parts.
It descended late on Saturday, leading to overnight flight diversions. Airplanes due to land at Abu Dhabi were rerouted to Sharjah for a time, resulting in long delays for passengers.
There were also flight disruptions on Thursday night, according to airport staff.
The National Centre of Meteorology issued an alert warning of reduced visibility.
The fog will clear by around 10am to leave a partly sunny day, with a slight rise in temperatures, reaching a high of 29C inland and 28 on the coast.
There is a slight chance of light rain showers in Abu Dhabi in the late afternoon.
Winds will be light to moderate.
The start of the working week will be dusty and partly cloudy, with the possibility of light rain and a significant drop in temperatures, according to the UAE’s weather bureau.
