Temperatures across the UAE will climb above 40°C at the weekend with a mild sandstorm likely on Friday.

The hottest temperature recorded in the country on Thursday was 42°C in Al Ruwais, west of Abu Dhabi city.

On the whole, temperatures are expected to continue to climb with peaks of 36°C and 35°C forecast for Abu Dhabi and Dubai, respectively, at the weekend.

Inland temperatures could hit a maximum of 41°C while dropping as low as 16°C overnight.

Humidity is also on the rise, peaking at 85 per cent inland and 60 per cent in the cooler mountainous regions of the Emirates.

The National Centre of Meteorology said Friday would be fair but with the risk of dust in the daytime over some interior and coastal areas, especially in the west.

It will be cloudy at times in the east.

The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.
