Dubai saw a gloomy and foggy start to Friday with clouds hanging low over the city's skyscrapers.

Humidity hovered around 70 per cent as is common for September and October.

Conditions are expected to brighten later in Dubai and Abu Dhabi though some cloud is forecast in the afternoon.

Top temperatures could reach 37°C in Abu Dhabi and 37°C in Dubai, the government's NCM weather centre predicted.

The organisation warned drivers to take care on the roads due to low visibility caused by thick blankets of fog.

Global forecaster AccuWeather warned allergy suffers to expect very high dust and dander.

Winds may reach speeds of up to 38kmph inland and in mountainous regions.

In some parts of the country, particularly in coastal regions, humidity levels are expected to hit as high as 90 per cent, the weather bureau said.

Conditions will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

AccuWeather predicted mostly clear conditions this weekend with some cloud and temperatures in the low to mid-30s.
