UAE motorists urged to take care in high winds

Motorists are being warned of reduced visibility as winds of up to 60kph whip up dust into the air.

ABU DHABI // Motorists are being warned of reduced visibility as winds of up to 60kph whip up dust into the air.

Winds are expected to get stronger until 3pm today, according to the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology. “We expect the horizontal visibility to deteriorate in some places to be less than 2,000 meters,” said a spokesman. “Precautions must be taken by drivers along the high roads because of poor visibility.”

Drivers of high-sided vehicles should be extra cautious in the strong winds. Fishermen have been told to avoid all activity at sea. Offshore waves have already reached 3.65m and seas will remain rough until Sunday evening. Sailors are advised to call the centre before going to sea. Temperatures have dropped six to eight degrees lower than Friday. Temperatures will reach a high of between 30°C to 33°C and a low of 22°C to 26°C along coastal regions.

In inland areas, the temperature will reach up to 33°C to 38°C, with a low of 19°C to 26°C. In the mountains, the temperature will range range from 24°C to 33°C with a low of 19°C to 23°C. There may be strong winds until Sunday evening.
