The UAE Embassy in the United States has sent out a safety warning to UAE citizens in the country as the deadly threat of a 'monster' hurricane looms large.

The embassy sent a number of tweets yesterday urging UAE citizens on the east coast of the US to stay alert about the dangers of the fast approaching Hurricane Florence.

The embassy tweeted last night: “Attention UAE citizens in Virginia, North and South Carolina, as #HurricaneFlorence (a category 4 hurricane) approaches, stay tuned to your local news for safety instructions and evacuation procedures.”

The National reported on Wednesday how millions of people were in danger from the 225kph Hurricane Florence, which was growing in size and intensity and creeping closer to the US East Coast on Wednesday. The centre of Florence, a slow-moving Category 3 hurricane, is expected to draw close to the North Carolina coast on Friday afternoon and drift southwest along the shoreline before turning inland on Saturday.

The embassy tweeted: “Attention UAE citizens in North and South Carolina, Hurricane Florence is approaching closer and gaining in strength. Stay tuned to your local news for safety instructions and evacuation procedures.”

The UAE Embassy was not the only outlet taking to social media warning UAE citizens to be vigilant in the face of Hurricane Florence.

The UAE in Houston tweeted: “To all UAE Students, patients, and citizens currently residing in Texas, a tropical depression is likely to form by Thursday and expected to move inland causing floods due to heavy rain in different areas in Texas especially Houston and surrounding areas.”

They asked that UAE citizens stay tuned to local news and weather stations for updates and “strictly adhere to all official advisories issued by the local authorities in your area”.
