A tropical storm expected to hit speeds of up to 75 kilometres per hour is hurtling towards the heart of the Arabian Sea, experts said.

The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology said it is monitoring the movements of the tropical depression.

The NCM said on its official Twitter account that it would provide further updates.

"A formation of tropical depression has been tracked to the northeast of the Arabian Sea close to the coast of India," the NCM said.

On early Sunday evening, it said the storm had an estimated speed of 45kph to 55kph at its centre.
