Thousands of vehicles to keep off road on Car Free Day in Dubai
DUBAI // More than 5,000 vehicles are expected to stay off the roads this Wednesday as more than 27 government, schools, and private sector institutes participate in the fourth annual Car Free Day in Dubai.
Last year, 18 organisations participated to get 3,500 vehicles off the road.
The Municipality estimates they managed to save 10.5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions that day. With the number of participants increasing this year, the municipality estimates a 14 tonne reduction in emissions will be achieved.
Dubai Holdings says they have arrange public transport for their staff on Wednesday, although as many as 25 per cent already use the Metro to get to work on a regular basis.
