DUBAI // Camels, falcons and other popular animals will soon be able to benefit from herbal medicine.

The world's first herbal and organic dewormer, Verm-X, is being showcased at the VET Middle East show in Dubai and is due to go on sale here within six weeks.

The pellets come in a variety of formulations for different animals - including camels, raptors and exotic species - and cost about the same as pharmaceutical equivalents. The manufacturer is based in the UK.

Farm & Vet of Dubai has acquired the UAE distribution rights. Director Michael Reay said: "For salukis and falcons, it's marvellous. It's natural and that's what people want, they want the best for their animals. I see a very big potential for it."

British vet Nick Thompson, who runs a clinic that offers homeopathy, acupuncture and herbal medicine for pets and who is a consultant to Verm-X, said: "The intelligent use of herbs in animal husbandry is the future of veterinary medicine."
