Police cordoned off the area after 40 people were taken to safety, as firefighters brought the blaze under control.

"Fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene after a report was received by the operations room at 10.30am on Sunday morning," said Col Salem Hamad Hamdah, director of the Civil Defence Department in Umm Al Quwain.

He said the fire was controlled in record time and was prevented from spreading to nearby warehouses.

“The cooling operations were completed and the location was handed over to authorities for their procedures,” the official said.

No casualties were reported.
