Dubai Safari Park has temporarily closed as unstable weather conditions linger throughout the country, Dubai Municipality said on Sunday.

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) cautioned residents that unstable weather would continue throughout the day, and began reporting rainfall around midday in several places including parts of Dubai, the Dubai-Al Ain Road and Sharjah. This is after areas in the Northern Emirates experienced the brunt of the storm Saturday evening, including reports of hail.

The Dubai Municipality said in a statement that the decision to close the park until the “weather stabilises has been taken to ensure the safety and security of its guests, staff members as well as animals”.

The Dh1 billion project opened on December 12 featuring 2,500 different animals representing more than 250 species. The park announced that it was offering free admission for its soft launch period, lasting until December 26, from 9 am to 5 pm.
