DUBAI // For a week in April, residents and visitors will have the chance to learn more about environmental issues in a fun way through the Dubai Green Festival.

The festival, organised by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), will feature seven days of competitions and workshops in various locations across the emirate.

“We are proud to launch the Dubai Green Festival which is the first of its kind that targets all segments of society to increase awareness of sustainable solutions in order to preserve the environment,” said Khalid bin Sulayem, the director general of DTCM.

The UAE is one of the world’s highest energy and water consumers, as well as waste generators. The festival will be an attempt to showcase what responsible companies – as well as private individuals – can do to address the problems.

Mr bin Sulayem said the green festival was “the ideal platform to include companies, governmental institutions, as well as tourism, commercial, educational, and social organisations to share their experiences and to adopt new practises”.

“At the festival, individuals will have a chance to share their ideas and to promote their aspirations of the future of the environment in Dubai,” he said.

“It will be the ideal stage for public participation in environmental awareness, where individuals will feel responsible for the environment and will learn how to practice social responsibility on a daily level.”
