The owners of a sewage tank face a Dh50,000 fine after its contents were disposed of illegally in Sharjah.

Sharjah // The owners of a sewage tank have been hit with a Dh50,000 fine after its contents were disposed of illegally.

The sewage was found flowing into the waters off Hamriya Port on Saturday and endangering the environment, an official said.

Hana Seif Al Suwaidi, the director general of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, said that authorities were clamping down on the practice and inspectors were constantly searching for these breaches.

“There is a designated sewage disposal area in industrial area 5 that is operated by the Sharjah Municipality,” she said.
