Umm Al Quwain has shut all public beaches until further notice to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Beaches of hotels and resorts are excluded from the order, which was made to prevent gatherings.

Ajman Corniche Beach and Al Zorah Beach, both in Ajman, were also temporarily closed over the weekend.

They were set to reopen at 6pm on Saturday.

Public beaches remain closed in Abu Dhabi, but private beaches owned by hotels and resorts are open.

Public and private beaches have reopened in Dubai with additional precautions, including social distancing and mandatory masks when beachgoers are not in the water.

This month police revealed hundreds of people had been fined for not complying with the safety measures, including 221 offences which were registered in one day alone earlier this month.
