If you have ever wondered how wind turbines produce renewable energy, or how you would go about building one yourself, this is the workshop for you.

Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, is holding a Wind Turbine workshop as part of Abu Dhabi Science Festival, to teach children how the power generator works.

Youngsters will be shown how to build their own turbines to understand how they create energy from the wind.

Participants will use a soldering iron to connect a generator to their turbine, then test its performance in a wind tunnel to see whose creation generates the most power.

“By providing them with hands-on experiences such as building wind turbines, we will inspire their curiosity in science-based careers that will help us build a knowledge-based economy in the UAE,” said Mahra Al Qassimi, Masdar’s director of marketing and corporate communications.

“A major component of our mission at Masdar is introducing students to emerging industries, such as renewable energy, that will support our economic growth in the future.”

Abu Dhabi Science Festival is at du Forum until November 23.
