UAE nationals were granted visa-free travel to the eastern Caribbean country of St Lucia starting this week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced on October 27,

“The decision has come into effect following the signing of an agreement between the UAE and St Lucia in September, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York,” said Ahmed Al Dhaheri, assistant under-secretary for consular affairs at the ministry. “The move will enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism, economy and investment, and will lead to the development of bilateral relations.”

The new rules exempt UAE nationals holders of diplomatic, private, VIP and regular passports from pre-visa entry requirement. Emiratis will be able to visit St Lucia without a visa for up to 60 days at a time.

UAE citizens have increasingly been granted visa-free travel to numerous locations around the globe, including Japan which was signed off on in April this year.

The ministry said at the time it had planned to sign visa-free travel deals with 18 countries this year alone, including with Brazil and Argentina.

The UAE passport was ranked as the most valuable in the GCC earlier this year, according to the Passport Index, a global ranking of the world’s passports. It is placed 28th among global passports.
