ABU DHABI // An Emirati mother was killed and six others injured in a car crash near Saih Sheib yesterday.
Those hurt included the 29-year-old woman's three children, aged 11, 6 and 18 months, her Emirati husband, 34, and a 27-year-old Ethiopian woman accompanying the family.
The crash happened when the family's car collided with a truck, according to Wam, the state news agency.
The truck driver suffered moderate injures, the Ministry of Interior said.
The family members had injuries "ranging between deep and moderate," the ministry added.
Maj Nasser Al Nuaimi, chairman of the ministry's Supreme Committee on Child Protection, urged families to use child car seats at all times to protect youngsters in the event of a crash.
Maj Al Nuaimi said all children below the age of 10 should be seated in the back seat and that the "widespread behaviour" of letting children ride in the front seat or lean out of car windows was dangerous.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
