A 14-year-old girl was killed in a horror crash in Sharjah after taking her parents' car without their knowledge.

The Emirati teenager was speeding when she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a pavement in Khor Fakkan in the early hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported the girl to Khor Fakkan Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.

“The operations room received a report at 5:20am on Wednesday about a vehicle that was involved in a traffic accident on one of the internal roads in the Al Haray area,” said Colonel Ali Al Kai Al Hamoudi, of Sharjah Police.

Col Al Hamoudi offered his condolences to the girl's family and urged parents to warn their children about the dangers of driving without a license and while underage.

“They need to warn their children against driving before they are old enough to obtain a license,” he said.

He urged all motorists to abide by traffic rules and adhere to speed limits.
