Emirati families stranded in Austria after robbery
Three Emirati families on a group vacation in Austria have been stranded since Friday after a man posing as a hotel valet stole a briefcase containing their passports and Dh62,000 in cash from their rental car.
Mohammed Sultan, one of the nine Emiratis to be stranded, said he contacted the UAE embassy in Austria and the UAE foreign ministry for help but did not receive an adequate response. He said the families fear that their credit cards, which are their only means of covering day-to-day expenses, will max out before new travel documents are issued.
Austrian authorities are investigating the case. No footage of the robbery has been recorded on CCTV cameras.
