A young Emirati has died while trying to save seven children from rough conditions at a beach in Ras Al Khaimah.

A boy, 13, also drowned.

A M S, 20, and two friends were walking along the beach on Wednesday evening when they heard the children screaming and dived into the sea.

But the harsh conditions left them struggling before they could reach the youngsters.

His two friends managed to make it back to shore but A M S drowned, said Brig Gen Ghanem Ahmad of RAK Police.

Coastguard teams saved six of the boys and girls, identified as Asians aged between 11 and 13, and took them to the nearest hospital, but they could not save the seventh child, R S J, who disappeared.

His body was found by police the next morning.

Brig Gen Ahmad called on those planning to swim at the beach to first check weather forecasts.
