AJMAN // An Emirati man died after his light aircraft crashed into the sea off the coast of Al Zorah yesterday evening, police said.

The 35-year-old victim was flying the single-seater aircraft, when there was a malfunction with the engine at around 6pm, said Brigadier Ali Alwan the director general of Ajman Police.

“Police received a communication from local residents that a person was struggling in the waters of Al Zorah,” he said.

“Police rescue and ambulances were quickly dispatched on the scene and they managed to retrieve the man from water but he was found to be dead on arrival at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital.”

The area is a popular destination for aircraft enthusiasts and police reminded pilots to ensure that planes were well maintained and safe to fly before use.
