Emirati charged over inheritance row
Unemployed 45-year-old attacked his brother with a knife
An Emirati man assaulted his brother and threatened to burn their dead father’s house down if his family denied him his inheritance, a court has heard.
Prosecutors said the unemployed 45-year-old used a knife to attack his sibling during a heated argument in Al Barsha in Dubai in October last year.
The two brothers and their sister had met to discuss how to divide up their inheritance, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
But when they failed to agree the defendant rushed into the kitchen to grab a knife and attack the pair.
“I used a broomstick to keep him away from us but he dodged it and tried to stab me,” his brother told the court.
“I pinned him down and got injured in the process.”
Police officers later arrested the man and charged him with assault. The hearing was adjourned until January 7.
