Emirati boy drowns inside washing machine

Four-year-old discovered in a house in Ajman

A four-year-old Emirati boy has drowned inside a washing machine at a home in Ajman.

Police said the youngster was found dead by his mother at the property in the Al Rawda area.

Detectives believe he climbed into the machine in the family’s laundry room and closed the door.

The wash cycle of the programme then activated, locking the boy inside and drowning him.

“The washing machine was filled with hot water and started spinning after it was automatically turned on and the boy died due to suffocation and drowning,” said Lt Col Yahya Al Matroushi.

“The boy was found by his mother after she arrived home and his uncle managed to get him out of the washing machine after he broke the door.”

Police received reports of the tragedy on Thursday and immediately dispatched officers and emergency services to the scene.

Lt Col Matroushi urged parents to keep a close eye on their children, keeping them away from any potential hazards.

The Ajman Police General Command said it had offered its condolences to the family of the victim.
