ABU DHABI // A customer-service employee at the Health Authority -Abu Dhabi was sentenced to three months in prison yesterday for embezzling more than Dh600,000.
The Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered FM, an Emirati, to pay a fine equal to the Dh644,200 he embezzled.
FM deposited the amount in his personal bank account after getting the money from the authority's customers.
He denied the charges in court at first, saying he had kept the money for two weeks in the office because of a system error that prevented him from depositing the funds in the authority's account.
However, at the last hearing, FM confessed and returned the money to the authority.
