The deaths of the father and daughter in Monday’s tragic blaze brought the total of dead in UAE fires this week to eight.
Three-year-old Emirati twins died of smoke inhalation in a fire that broke out in their home in Merbah area, north of Fujairah, on Monday.
Col Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, director of Fujairah Civil Defence said the fire erupted in the children's bedroom and did not spread to the rest of the house.
The children were rushed to Fujairah Hospital but were dead on arrival.
The medical examiner's report confirmed that the children died of suffocation due to smoke inhalation.
Civil Defence has referred the case to Fujairah police to investigate the cause of the fire.
In Sharjah, four workers – three Bangladeshis and a Pakistani – were reported to have died yesterday from injuries sustained in fires on Sunday.
Eight workers were injured in the blaze, which swept through two buildings.
