ABU DHABI // Egyptians wanting to vote in their country’s next parliamentary elections can register from tomorrow.

Until February 18, anyone who did not register for the presidential elections last April will have a chance to do so. Those already registered do not need to reregister.

“This will benefit many,” said Shoeb Abdul Fattah, the Egyptian embassy’s press attache. “During the constitution voting, a lot of people came to the embassy shouting that they want to vote, but they were not registered from before. They did not care, they wanted to vote still, but they cannot.”

He called on everyone to register to avoid a recurrence of that. “We ask everyone in the UAE who did not register before to do so as soon as possible so they have a voice,” he said.

Registration will be closed early if an election to the House of Representatives starts before February 18. The embassy has previously called on the High Elections Commission to reopen registration after many people complained they had been disenfranchised.
Egyptians can register at elections.eg or at the embassy.
