Big-hearted children at a UAE nursery got in the Ramadan spirit by offering a generous serving of support to those fasting during the holy month.

British Orchard Nursery enlisted little ones from branches across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to dish out iftar packages to labourers and other people breaking their fast.

The initiative - called Sharing is Caring - proved a success, with the children eager to learn a vital lesson on the importance of helping others.

Staff, parents and children teamed up to put together boxes crammed with iftar treats such as dates, laban, juice, biscuits and water.

The caring convoy then set off to visit mosques and construction sites to hand out the packages.

As part of its charitable vision, British Orchard Nursery has also partnered with consumer goods giant Unilever to donate clothes to the needy.

“When it comes to lifelong lessons such as learning to share and being generous, doing it practically always leaves a deeper imprint on young minds,” said Dr Vandana Gandhi, founder and chief executive of British Orchard Nursery.

“It was encouraging to see that this time parents were actively involved in the exercise as well, supporting their children to help others. I believe it’s important to sensitise children to the needs of the less-privileged so that they can grow up to be more sensitive human beings with concern for others' welfare.”
