UAE National Teacher Prize established
DUBAI // A new award scheme established by the Ministry of Education in partnership with GEMS Education will reward the country’s top Emirati teacher with a Dh1 million prize.
The UAE National Teacher Prize is open to Emirati teachers working in public or private schools who are considered role models among their peers, are active in various social and cultural initiatives, encourage others to join the teaching profession, strive to create a good reputation for their profession and encourage debate and dialogue on ways to improve educational standards in the country.
Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said the award encouraged Emirati teachers to try new methods of teaching by using creativity, active participation and high productivity. The award is meant to develop positive aspects in the teacher and also honours the teacher who is the most innovative in this field.
“Teaching is one of the noblest of professions because it is considered one of the major cornerstones for the nation in building future generations,” he said.
“The teaching sector helps well-educated students in adopting true UAE values, provides a sense of nationalism and belonging to their homeland, belief in their leaders, and gives impetus to students to adopt the new developmental changes sought by the country. Teachers become a role model for others to follow and ensure a secure environment for others to depend on.”
Applications and nominations are being accepted in December.
The winner will be announced during the Government Summit in February.
A shortlist of the best nominees will also get the opportunity to train abroad.
