DUBAI // How much would you pay for a bottle of water?

Residents are being urged to dig deep and bid in an online auction for what could be the world's most expensive bottle of water as part of a charity campaign to help children in impoverished countries receive better education.

The 1.5-litre bottle of Masafi mineral water, which normally costs about Dh14, is up for grabs in the charity auction as part of a Thank You campaign by the mineral water company, in partnership with charity organisation Dubai Cares.

The online auction, which will run until June 30, will encourage people to outbid each other for the bottle of water.

Funds from the auction, in addition to proceeds from the nationwide sale of Masafi water bottles carrying the Thank You message, will go towards providing children in impoverished countries access to quality primary education.

"We are privileged to be part of this noble cause," said Reginald Randall, chief executive of Masafi. "Dubai Cares is playing a pivotal role in supporting primary education programmes in developing countries and we are happy to be supporting them through this campaign.

"This is a small step towards a world of good, a value to which we at Masafi are proud to espouse."

Bidders and donors can go to internet address www.mostpreciouswater.com to participate in the online auction. Bidding will start from Dh1.50.

Those who are outbid in the auction have the option to donate their bid amount to Dubai Cares.
