DUBAI // A lucky toddler has received a scholarship worth Dh316,800 to study for eight years at a private school in Al Ain.

Hamdan Al Hassani, a 3-year-old Emirati, won the scholarship in a raffle held by Al Ain International School at the Al Jimi Mall.

Most scholarships only cover a year, but Nilay Ozral, director of Aldar Academies, said they decided to extend the scholarship to eight years so the child could complete all stages of primary school.

"Hamdan is really excited about being here today," said his dad Khalfan Al Hassani, when he was given a tour of the school today. "We're all looking forward to him joining."

The school, managed by Aldar Academies, opened in 2011 and follows a UK curriculum. The school offers programmes from Foundation Stage 1, the lowest grade level, up to Year 6, which is the end of the primary level.
