DUBAI // An educational scholarship has been launched in memory of the former director of breast cancer group Pink Caravan Ameera bin Karam.

The Emirati died in October, along with her mother and sister, in a fire at their home in Al Qadisiyah, Sharjah.

Nada Al Lawati, chairwoman of SEED Group International, said The Ameera bin Karam Memorial Scholarship was set up in tribute to the 38-year-old who dedicated her live to helping women.

“Ameera was charming, persuasive, goal-orientated, dedicated, hard working, diligent and kind. Most of all, she was there for anyone who needed her.”

Ms Lawati said she had a knack for rallying people and turned her “care into action”.

“If measured in achievements and contributions, Ameera lived a long life. If measured in how much time she spent with us, she left us far too soon. As a fellow woman in business, she offered practical support and reliable counsel, said Ms Lawati.

“As the chair of Sharjah Woman’s Business Council, she provided the access and backing needed to start a business and to succeed. As a friend, she offered the warmest support.”

In October, a fund was set up in memory of bin Karam by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of Sharjah’s Ruler, to raise money for the treatment of cancer patients worldwide.

“The move aims to memorialise her tireless compassionate efforts and to urge others to follow her voluntary and charitable approach in supporting cancer patients in the UAE and beyond,” said Sheikha Jawaher, who called on individuals and organisations in the UAE and abroad to contribute.

Dr Andrew Lee, chief executive of SEED Group International, said the scholarship would be worth approximately Dh180,000.
