RAK school brings community together for cultural and educational activities

Families at Al Hamraniya in Ras Al Khaimah gathered at Fatima bint Mubarak School football field to take part in the first community schools initiative event

RAS AL KHAIMAH // Families gathered at the football field of the Fatima bint Mubarak School on Thursday to take part in the first community event at schools in the emirate.

The event uses the school’s facilities to engage residents in cultural, educational and entertainment activities.

About 300 pupils took part in activities and workshops that introduced them to the UAE’s history and values. They also watched a film about the Earth and space, and learnt words in sign language.

The initiative was launched by the Ministry of Community Development and Ministry of Education in collaboration with institutions such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Watani Al Emarat Foundation and the Ras Al Khaimah Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled.

“I learnt to use sign language to talk about animals, colours and flags,” said Maitha Al Msafiri, 9, an Emirati pupil at the school. “I also coloured the UAE flag. It’s fun and all my friends at school are here with me today.”

The initiative was an opportunity to meet residents and share information about the country with them. said Tamimah Al Naesir, Watani Al Emarat Foundation’s director of events and social projects.

“Our workshops are designed to teach children about their history, culture and values in simple ways that include colouring, puzzles and games that encourage them to participate and learn in a fun environment,” she said.

Moza Rashid, the school’s manager, said such activities would be organised on Thursdays for members of the community. “It’s part of our community involvement, collaboration and a way of bonding,” she said.

The initiative’s opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al Awar, Minister of Community Development, and Jameela Al Muhairi, Minister of State for Public Education.
