ABU DHABI // In renewing a programme it launched last year, the Emirates Foundation will increase the number of grants it awards to state schools to promote voluntarism, the organisation announced on Sunday. The foundation's Takatof division will oversee the distribution of Dh310,000 (US$84,400) to school projects that nurture a culture of voluntarism and social responsibility. Last year, the foundation made 21 grants, exclusively to secondary schools, totalling Dh225,470. This year, primary and preparatory schools will be eligible to apply for grants in the expanded programme. "Through this project, we aim to enhance student participation in volunteer work and develop their intellectual skills, improving their self-esteem and giving them greater confidence," said Maytha al Habsi, Takatof's director, in a statement on Sunday.
