Former US secretary of state John Kerry to address this year's graduating students from NYUAD
Former US secretary of state John Kerry will be the keynote speaker at this year’s graduation ceremony at New York University Abu Dhabi.
He will be joined by Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, for the 5th commencement, to be held at the Saadiyat Island campus on May 20.
Mr Kerry served as secretary of state under President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017. A former veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a Democratic senator for Massachusetts before losing the 2004 presidential election to George W Bush.
He also signed the historic 2016 Paris Accord to reduce carbon omissions.
Around 250 students from more than 70 countries will graduate from NYUAD this year. Al Bloom, the university’s vice chancellor said: “Secretary Kerry has been distinguished by extraordinary courage, commitment to building bridges of understanding, and singular focus on fostering enduring peace.
“Recognized for his qualities of leadership from the Vietnam era to the Obama White House, his presence is certain to inspire the Class of 2018.”
