Twenty-three students from Al Ain English Speaking School have obtained gold and silver awards from the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award scheme.

The youth achievement programme was set up in the UK by Queen Elizabeth's husband in 1956, and the international version has since spread to 140 countries.

It enables young people to learn new skills, build their confidence and help their communities through volunteering.

The awards were presented by Mr Dominic Jeremy, the British ambassador.

He said: "I'm pleased to see an increasing number of schools in the UAE embrace the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award programme, which provides a life-changing experience for students."
