A women-only sports library has pitched up in Abu Dhabi, aiming to boost the number of females in the field.

Comprising more than 800 books, the Fatima bint Mubarak Sports Library forms part of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club library.

Titles are in English and Arabic across subjects such as sports journalism, photography, marketing, sponsorship, physiology and more.

The initiative came about following the donation of titles by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) to the club's library. The academy falls under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima, and the contribution aims to “fill the educational gaps that exist in sports in the UAE”.

It has also been designed to make information easily accessible as the FBMA seeks to increase the number of women in sports.

Omniyat Al Hajeri from the FBMA said the library is a world-class facility.

“We are confident that the launch of the library will in turn become a catalyst for other ladies across the UAE to participate in sport, whether it be journalism, marketing, physiology or other areas," she said.

"It is with great pleasure to see this library open and we are all excited at FMBA, as we look forward to seeing how it will begin to enrich the lives of many women in sport.”
