Geopolitical and economic thought leaders will convene at the Arab Strategy Forum in Dubai next week to forecast potential developments in global and regional issues in 2018.

In it's tenth year, the forum will be held on December 12 under the theme "The State of the World in 2018".

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the forum will bring together economic and political analysts to discuss the potential state of the world in the year to come.

“The Forum reflects the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid with regard to the need to anticipate geopolitical and economic developments regionally and globally so that we can be prepared to deal with various scenarios and advance the interests of the region," said Suha Al Aleeli, director of the ASF. "The world is going through rapid and constant changes which require a quick response and immediate action plans," she said.

The one-day event will comprise six sessions featuring speakers, including Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, who will offer an economic perspective on the year to come and address the question of whether or not the world will witness another economic crisis. Other sessions will cover the political and economic state of the Arab world, tackling questions such as which economy is expected to lead the region next year, and how the confrontation with Iran will impact the region.

Former French President Francois Holland, and former US Defense Secretary Robert Gates will discuss "The Political State of the World in 2018".

A special session will be held to discuss the geopolitical situation in the Arabian Gulf and the Forum will also review a report on events that will affect the world next year.
